Windows has had a built-in Sticky Notes program from the days of Windows XP Tablet Edition. Sticky Notes is useful for quickly recording Sticky Notes and can also be used as an app for making lists.
Although Sticky Notes has been a part of Windows OS for a long time, many users often delete Sticky Notes while trying to close Sticky Notes because there is no close button on the program/app. However, you can quickly lock and minimize Sticky Notes using Alt + F4 and clicking the Sticky Notes icon on the taskbar.
Sticky Notes in Windows 10
Before Anniversary Update for Windows 10, recovering quickly deleted Hard Sticky Notes was made comfortable in Windows 10 as it was a desktop program afterward. With Anniversary Update for Windows 10, Microsoft has removed the classic Sticky Notes desktop app and introduced the Modern Sticky Notes app.
Classic Sticky Notes program will store all Sticky Notes in% AppData% Microsoft Sticky Notes folder. However, the new Sticky Notes app in Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) and later builds don’t save Sticky Notes in that location as it’s a modern app. So the old method of backing up and restoring Sticky Notes won’t work if you’re on version 1607 or later of Windows 10.
While there’s no software to help you backup and restore Sticky Notes in Windows 10, the manual method is pretty easy and straight forward.
Users over 1607 and later versions of Windows 10 can follow the instructions below to Backup and Restore Sticky Notes in Windows 10.
IMPORTANT: This method applies only to Windows 10th Anniversary updates and later versions. Please ensure that you are running version 1607 or later version of Windows 10 by typing Winver.exe in the Start search box or toolbox and pressing the Enter key. For earlier versions, please review how to recover the deleted Sticky Notes Guide.
