Method 1: Run the Troubleshooter automatically
Step 1 Click Start and type Troubleshooter in the search box. Then click “Troubleshooter”

Step 4 Select Apply repairs automatically and Run as Administrator. Then you can click Next and follow the steps to complete troubleshooting.
Method 2: Delete everything in the download folder
Sometimes Windows 10’s 0x80004005 update error occurs if the downloaded Windows update file is damaged. If so, the problem will be fixed by deleting all corrupt files in the folder containing downloaded Windows updates and then trying to re-download the update file again.
Step 1 Double-click the “This PC” icon on your desktop to open File Explorer.
Step 2 Navigate the path: C: WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload
“C” is the drive letter of the partition on which Windows is installed. If you are installing the system on another partition, you should replace C with the corresponding drive letter.
Step 3 Press Ctrl + A to select all files and folders and press Delete on the keyboard.
Step 4 Confirm the deletion when prompted by the system.

Method 3: Download and install the update manually
While quite a few users have had problems, there is an easy way to fix the problem. Users need to download and install updates automatically without using the Windows Update console. You can download the update file from various websites online, and you’ll need to find it through Google search. Once the file is downloaded, you can run the setup file to install it. Step 1 Launch Edge or another internet browser and open a search engine like Google.

Step 1 Set up the computer to boot from the CD or the DVD drive instead of the XP system. For more information on how to configure this, please read the instructions that came with your computer or contact the manufacturer.
Step 2 Insert the Windows XP CD into the computer and restart your computer. Then, before the computer boots into the system, you can see the prompt “Press any key to boot from CD” and press the key to boot the CD. Once again, you may see a command “To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.”, then press R to enter Recovery Console.
Step 3 When you see option “1. C: WINDOWS ”, press 1, and you can access the primary drive setting. Meanwhile, if you are asked to enter the administrator password, enter it if you have already set one; otherwise, press Enter to continue.
Step 4 Type cd C: WINDOWS System32 and press Enter. Use the REN command to rename the following files by typing REN File_Name.extension File_Name.old . Wpa.dbl Pidgen.dll Actshell.html Licdll.dll Regwizc.dll Licwmi.dll Wpabaln.exe
Step 5 Type the CD drive letter including the colon (e.g., G ? and press Enter. Continue typing cd i386 and press Enter. Type the command below and each command, then press Enter.
