Fix / Fix Taskbar Errors in Windows

Here you can find solutions to some common Windows Taskbar related problems like:

  • Taskbar context menu is disabled. No menu appears when you right click on the Taskbar.
  • The “Lock the Taskbar” option is disabled.
  • Cannot add a toolbar using the “Toolbars” option in the toolbar context menu.
  • Taskbar Properties could not be opened. An error message appears.
  • The Taskbar could not be resized or moved.

So here we start:

1. Taskbar context menu is disabled. No menu appears when you right click on the Taskbar.

Sol. Type regedit in the Run dialog box and press Enter. Now go to:

OR

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Policies Explorer

In the right window, delete the “ NoTrayContextMenu ” DWORD value.

2. The “Lock the taskbar” option is disabled. Whenever you right-click the Taskbar, the “Lock the Taskbar” option turns gray:

In the right pane, delete the “ LockTaskbar ” DWORD value.

3. Cannot add toolbar using “Toolbars” menu in Taskbar context menu. All options are grayed out:

In the right window, delete the ” NoCloseDragDropBands ” DWORD value.

4. Cannot open Taskbar Properties. Whenever you click “Properties” in the taskbar context menu, an error message appears:

5. Cannot resize or move Taskbar even the “Lock the Taskbar” option is checked.
