You have a problem with the upside-down Skype camera every time I video call. How to fix it?

Skype is a popular communication program that allows making video calls convenient to chat with friends or relatives living abroad or having an important business call. However, the upside-down Skype camera issue prevents getting the best experience.

Additionally, Skype users reported that their videos were flipped horizontally, flipped, or mirrored on Windows computers. Most of these problems are related to:

  • Webcam software;
  • Webcam drivers;
  • Install Skype.

Changing specific settings, updating or reinstalling webcam drivers can help fix Skype camera balance issues. Our team suggests trying five different methods to solve this annoying problem.

Below you can find several methods that will help many computer users solve the problem. Hopefully, they will help you as well.

Method 1. Test the webcam software

If your Skype camera is mirrored, the problem could be related to the webcam software:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Turn off the flip or mirroring option.

However, if these settings are not enabled or the problem persists, try the second method.

Method 2. Update webcam driver

Updating the webcam driver requires learning your hardware ID. Then you will be able to download the right software and check if the Skype camera clutter down the problem is resolved.

  1. Press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager from the list that appears.
  2. In Device Manager, look for the webcam driver and double-click on it.
  3. In the properties window that appears, go to the Details tab.
  4. Select Hardware Ids from the Properties list.

  5. In the Value list, you’ll see several entries. Copy the name of your webcam driver.
  6. Visit the developer’s website and find the latest version of your webcam driver there.

Once you install it, the problem should be resolved. Note that you only need to download the driver from the manufacturer’s website. Third-party websites may contain corrupt or even malicious drivers that can harm the system.

Method 3. Disable Horizontal and Mirror Vertical in Skype

  1. Open skype.
  2. Go to Tools and select Options.
  3. Go to Video settings in the left pane.
  4. Open the Advanced tab.
  5. In the Image mirror section, you will see the Mirror Horizontal and Mirror Vertical options.
  6. Eliminate tabs if these are selected.

Method 4. Reinstall the webcam driver

If no previous method helped you to fix upside down Skype camera, you might have to reinstall your webcam driver:

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager from the list.
  2. Once in Device Manager, find the webcam driver and right-click on it.
  3. Select Uninstall device options from the list.

  4. In the Uninstall Device box, you can see the Delete the driver software for this device section. Highlight near and click the Uninstall button.
  5. Once the driver is uninstalled, you can either click the Scan for hardware changes icon in Device Manager or restart the computer to enable the missing driver’s automatic installation.

Once the Windows OS is reinstalled, you should check to see if the Skype camera problems have been fixed. If the problem persists, there is a fifth method that can help – modify the registry.

Method 5. Modify Windows Registry

Before making changes to the Windows Registry, we recommend that you create backups first. It will save you from accidental damage or deletion of essential items. To do that, follow these steps:

  1. Press Windows + R and type regedit in the Run box. Click OK.
  2. In Registry Editor, click File and choose Export.
  3. In the box that appears, enter the name of the backup.
  4. Set Export range to All.
  5. Click Save to create a backup.

Once done, follow these steps:

Note. If you cannot find the DWORD or locate it in another location, this solution will not help you fix the upside-down Skype camera on Windows.
