You have a folder that you’ve been using for months, and suddenly it gets stuck when you try to open it. It only freezes for a while and displays the message “Working on it…. “.
When you wait long enough, the folder will finally open, and you can use it, but it seems to take longer and longer every day. It takes more than a minute to open compared to before.
How can you prevent this folder from freezing from opening on Windows? All other folders on my computer are fine.
How to fix a folder that freezes cannot open in Windows
This is an annoying issue, and you’re not the only one to have it. I get some of these same questions regularly.
The “Freeze” you are referring to is due to Windows’ ambiguity to quickly determine what types of files are stored in folders so it can know how to best display them. So your pc sits there and tries to figure it out.
Luckily there’s an easy fix that usually works under the circumstances like yours. Just follow the steps below to try it out:
1 – When opening the problem folder, right-click on a space inside the folder window and choose to Customize this folder.
2 – Click the Down Arrow in the gray box and select General items from the drop-down menu.
3 – Check the box next to Customize this folder.
4 – Click Apply, then click, OK.
All completed. With any luck, the problem folder will be open now. If not, let me know, and I’ll tell you what to try next.
