What is R00 file?
A file with the R00 file extension is a WinRAR archive. This file type usually comes with files with the .R01, .R02, .R03, etc.
These split archives are often created to make it convenient for you to download an extensive library over the Internet without downloading the entire file at once – you can only download individual sections.
Split files like these are also useful for storing an extensive archive on something like a disk.
If the storage device can only hold 700 MB, but your archive is five times the size, you can divide the library into five different sections and then store each partition on a separate disk.
How to open an R00 file
You can open R00 files using any program that supports RAR files, including the free PeaZip t00l and several other free decompression/decompression programs. However, it is possible that if you have an R00 file, you also have R01, R02, R03… etc. You have to go through another process to open multiple RXX files. Then you do when there is only one.
To open multiple repositories simultaneously, you must first make sure that all the different parts – files with the .R00, .R01, etc. Extensions are in the same folder – missing a file will break, archive files, and probably won’t even let you combine them into a single file.
Then you need to extract the R00 files. The program will automatically detect the other files and merge them, then remove the content.
Note: If your file doesn’t open as I described above, you are probably confusing the ROM file with the R00 file. ROMs are read-only memory image files that should be opened with a program like Basilisk II or Mini vMac.
How to convert an R00 file
R00 files are just part files, so it would be tedious to try to convert each.RXX file to a different archive format. Each piece is only a part of a more extensive archive, so it is not beneficial to partially convert an archive.
However, when different parts of the archive have been merged and the contents have been extracted, you can use a free file converter to convert the extracted files to another format. For example, although you cannot convert a .R00 to ISO, AVI, etc., you can extract ISOs or other files out of the .RXX archive once you have joined the fragments, and then use a free file Converter to convert extracted files to a new format.
Tip: You can convert ISO files with a program from this list of converters for commonly used formats. AVI files are video files that can be converted to other video formats with a free video converter.
