The story of the Darkside Chronicles section talks about the untold and especially the fateful missions of Leon and Krauser, who have changed their selves.
Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles is a part of the Wii game and has content mainly revolving around each character’s perspective in the Resident Evil plot events. This version devotes two parts to retelling Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica ( which the Game has written about). This time, we only focus on Operation Javier – about special missions of Leon S Kennedy and his old acquaintance Jack Krauser as a teammate.
This section begins with the fact that after the T-virus outbreak in Raccoon City in 2002, the government paid particular attention to the unusual behavior of the opium boss Javier Hildago when he hurriedly moved to South Africa. Fearing the risk that this man was trying to get in business with the Umbrella Corporation, the government sent Leon and Jack Krauser to follow Javier to his hideout. This is also the first time Leon cooperates with veteran agent Krauser.
Both of them could not make contact with their guide, so they made their way to the neighboring village. They heard a loudspeaker announcing that this village had many young girls’ disappearances without cause as soon as they arrived. Leon had sniffed the anomaly during the daytime, and the whole village was deserted like no one. As expected, a resident with signs of infection came out and attacked Krauser. From this point on, the two must continuously exterminate the zombie villagers. Unexpectedly, both caught BOWs like giant spiders and some other underwater monsters, and several Javier soldiers (with snake tattoos on their hands) also appeared to be infected. The two eventually managed to find a guide. Unfortunately, he was seriously injured. This person only had time to tell both of them that a girl who fled from the Javier mansion brought disaster to the village and then stopped breathing, and some underwater monster quickly stole the body.
Krauser figured that the girl was one of the missing victims. Javier might be trading illegal organs on the black market with his Sacred Snake organization. Both of them had to find the other girl when she was the only clue that could lead them to Javier’s mansion. Heading towards the church, Leon and Krauser heard singing. Two agents came in and saw a young girl sitting there in a bloody dress. Next to it was the monster that appeared to swallow the guide. There was no turning back. Both had to fight it.
The attack of two people did not destroy the monster but only made it run. Jack Krauser, who had never encountered BOWs or zombies before, was beginning to panic, asking Leon to tell him everything that had happened in Raccoon City. They all realized that this village’s incident was not the same as in Raccoon, but all the secrets were only known to Krauser. The two went upstream from the river flowing through the village to find Javier’s mansion.
With the guidance of Manuela – the surviving girl, Leon and Krauser have found Javier’s headquarters. They had to break in here through a sewer pipe, following the path Manuela escaped. Strange in that, this passage is filled with zombies and all kinds of BOWs, leaving Leon wondering how a weak girl can safely get out of here. He and Krauser both asked, but Manuela only answered that she did not see them when she ran away. It became even more suspicious when she repeatedly asked Javier whether it was bad enough to be arrested or what Javier did eventually. Most of the conversation is interrupted when the monsters always attack them until Manuela suddenly disappears when they go through a computer room.
Krauser and Leon eliminate all the zombies that come when they hear Manuela’s singing. She reappears and says that she is scared, so she runs away. At this moment, on the loudspeaker sounding Javier’s voice, Manuela heard and involuntarily called “Father.” Completely surprised, the two immediately chased Manuela out to the drain and saw Javier standing there.
Through the conversation, the two discover that Manuela is Javier’s daughter. She’s infected with the Veronica virus. Javier is talking about her just needing to endure a bit longer before everything is over. A Javier soldier appears to grab Manuela, Javier flushes the water to take Leon and Krauser away, but Manuela also rises to follow the two. Leon is utterly blind to what he hears. He doesn’t understand why Manuela can still maintain human form after being infected with Veronica. He’d heard Claire talk about the virus, how Steve had been modified, but what he didn’t understand the most was why Javier injected the virus into his daughter?
After being swept back into the original drains, Leon and Krauser have to go back inside to find Manuela again. Experiencing a series of close attacks by BOWs and zombies, the two eventually reencounter Manuela in the same engine room earlier. She told her she wanted to run away from Javier, so she went back to help. At that time, on the radio, Javier moved her to their position to catch Manuela before it was too late. Leon and Krauser take Manuela to escape. Here Manuela confessed at the age of 15, she was diagnosed with a severe illness like her mother, and the Veronica virus was injected as a cure. This virus helped her recover, but at the same time, it also tended to destroy the host’s brain and completely control that body. In no other case like Manuela, Javier indeed found a way to maintain his daughter’s state.
After escaping from the water pipe, the three prepare to enter Javier’s mansion. Leon also reveals his identity and a special mission to Krauser, that he receives the president’s order to wipe out the germs of the virus and Umbrella. Krauser agrees to follow Leon to find Javier. On the other hand, Javier urgently wanted to capture Manuela. They followed a tunnel containing the BOWs’ research into the mansion. There, Manuela leads people to a forbidden path to a garden full of creatures that have met on the way, like a cage for them. Leon realized that one of them was the scientists who worked for Umbrella, which determined Javier and Umbrella’s hypothesis. Escaping from the garden, they followed the elevator to a storage cellar, where Leon and Krauser found a room containing organs and the missing girls’ bodies.
Javier appeared; he said that these organs were for Manuela transplants, constantly renewed so the Veronica virus could not promptly destroy his daughter’s transformation. She begged her father to die, but Javier said he could not see his daughter die, speaking that the world is strong and weak, and the strong will live. Then he returned the monster that Leon had encountered at the church near the river before to destroy Leon and Krauser.
This battle is much more persistent than the previous one. Leon and Krauser must struggle to defeat it. When Manuela sang, the monster suddenly stopped, but she was quickly tortured by pain, so the two agents had to destroy it. After having defeated the beast, suddenly bringing the tent near Manuela, she looked and then suddenly realized it was her mother.
The Javier, who had run-up to the monster garden, awakened a large flower sprout and turned out to be an oversized BOWs creature. This monster goes down to 3 people, and we continue to have a tough boss battle. Temporarily taking down the monster for the first time, the three men follow a secret passage to escape above. Outside of Javier’s mansion, the monster that reveals its true form is a combination of the flower and Javier himself. Manuela attempted suicide because he did not want to be turned into a monster, but Leon stopped it. Having just seen the monster Javier about to attack Leon, Manuela stands up, and now we know her blood is capable of igniting itself in defense. The battle continued with the aid of Manuela.
Javier was eventually devoured by the Veronica virus, begging for his death and the entire monster to burn with him. Leon and Krauser were able to take Manuela out of there, she was protected by the US government and closely monitored, but it seemed that her body showed no signs of being changed. Particularly Krauser, the wound on his hand when attacked by Manuela’s mother could not recover. He was forced to leave the army and then disappeared. The story of Krauser, then we all know.
The hidden content of Darkside Chronicles, called Krauser’s Hidden Story, contributes to explaining Jack Krauser’s actions. This section talks about Krauser’s thoughts during his mission in South Africa. His beliefs began to waver after hearing Leon’s story, after which the wound in his hand caused the feeling of helplessness to arise because Krauser could not fight as well as he had initially been. Javier’s words and thoughts influenced Krauser, who agreed with the bioterrorist’s thinking. And after seeing Manuela’s ability, Krauser almost determined the dark path he must go later. He knew the army would not tolerate an army of war veterans like him, so after being discharged from the army, Krauser turned to Albert Wesker to find a way to heal his arm and become stronger.
