The keyboard still works, but over time some keys become unusable. It’s ineffective, so you want to disable the built-in keyboard and use the USB keyboard.

How to disable Laptop keyboard and use a USB keyboard in Windows

You can disable the Laptop keyboard. This is the way:

Note: The trick explained below will work in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in addition to Windows 10.

1 – Press the Windows + S key combination to open the Search box.

2 – Enter the word Device in the Search box, then select Device Manager from the search results list.

3 – Find Keyboards in the device list and click the arrow to expand it.

4 – Right-click on the keyboard and click Disable. If there is no “ Disable ” option listed, click Uninstall.

5 – Click File > Exit . Your laptop’s internal keyboard should be turned off.

Note: If you had to choose to Uninstall instead of Disable in step 4, the keyboard would be automatically detected and reinstalled if you’ve ever had a Device Manager section to scan for new hardware for some reason. If that happens, you need to repeat this procedure to uninstall it again.

That’s all there is to it, Greg. Your laptop’s internal keyboard should be turned off.
