Using the new built-in and default web browser ” Microsoft Edge, “is an exciting and useful trick. If you have multiple tabs open in Microsoft Edge and move the mouse pointer over a tab, the browser shows a Tab Preview Thumbnail of the tab in which the contents of the tabs highlight.
Despite being a useful feature of the Microsoft Edge web browser, some users can sometimes be annoying if they accidentally move the pointer over a tab. In addition to the tab, thumbnails are shown with slower animations, which may also annoy some people.
This guide will help you if you want to disable the Tab Preview Thumbnails feature in the Microsoft Edge web browser. By default, Microsoft Edge does not provide an option to disable this feature in its options, but you can help with a small registry tweak to disable tab preview thumbnails.
How to Disable Thumbnail Preview Tab in Microsoft Edge Web Browser:
1. Press WIN + R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Now type Regedit in the Run box and press Enter. It will open Registry Editor.
2. Now go to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER SOFTWARE Classes Local Settings Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion AppContainer Storage microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe MicrosoftEdge TabbedBrowsing
3. Right-click on the right side, select New, and click DWORD (32-bit) Value.
4. Name the new key TabPeekEnables.
5. Click OK.
6. Double-click the newly created key and make sure it is set to 0.
7. Click OK.
That’s it. Now launch the Microsoft Edge web browser, open multiple webpages, and hover over tabs, and you will no longer see tab previews. Instead, you’ll view the site’s name as a tooltip.
In the future, if you want to restore tab preview minimization in the Microsoft Edge web browser, you need to remove DWORD TabPeekEnabled from Registry Editor.
