Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem is a quality hack & slash RPG game, capable of pleasing Diablo fans if they are disappointed with Diablo 3.
After nearly a year of beta testing, the action RPG game Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem was finally sold on Steam on the night of February 13, according to Vietnam time. The game has quickly impressed gamers because of the top-notch graphics and gameplay that are not inferior to Diablo 3, and even if you delete the game name in the trailer, you may mistakenly think it is Diablo 4. To celebrate the official launch of the game, the game development team Wolcen Studios has released a new trailer that you can watch below:
This article will introduce you to the game’s highlights and why you should try it.
Top-notch graphics
Built on the famous CryEngine platform for the details and beauty of the image, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem indeed brings a very nice frame but is somewhat softer in configuration thanks to the rotation angle. The camera from above allows the developer to reduce the level of detail of objects on the screen. The game’s recommended configuration shows this when it only requires a GTX 1060 graphics card to run at maximum graphics settings, while the “antique” GTX 560 Ti can run the game at low quality. Best.
Recommended game configuration:
- Operating system: Windows 7 64-Bit SP1, Windows 8.1 64-Bit, Windows 10 64-Bit
- CPU: Intel Core i7-4770S 3.1 GHz / AMD FX-8320 3.5 GHz
- 16 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon RX 570 graphics card
- DirectX 11
- 18 GB hard drive
Background
The main character of Wolcen is one of the three survivors of the massacre in Castagath and was rescued by Heimlock Grand Inquisitor. You were summoned to the army of the Republic when you were very young and trained to be a perfect fighter against the supernatural forces. Along with two childhood friends, Valeria and Edric, you are called “Heimlock’s children” because he regularly teaches all three in learning and fighting.
One day, the Brotherhood of Dawn attacked Crimson Keep – a mysterious fortress of the Republic deep in the Northern desert. This attack’s target is unclear, but Republican MPs must organize counter-attacks against all the Brotherhood of Dawn bases. You, Valeria, and Edric are among the troops led by Heimlock heading towards a barracks of the Brotherhood of Dawn, and this is where the story begins.
Gameplay
As you can see in the gameplay trailer that Wolcen Studios released, the game’s combat system is very flexible, full of action, and “gore” – what Diablo devotees look for. Besides, realistic style graphics and dark, gloomy tones of the game promise to satisfy ARPG fans’ wishes after being disappointed because Diablo 3 chose a fresh cartoon style.
After about a year of beta testing with a rank limit of only 20, in the newly launched version on Steam, Wolcen: Lords of Destruction will have a three-story Act, and gamers can go up to level 90.
The game’s character development system doesn’t tie you into a fixed “character class”. When you level up, the game allows you to choose which skill you want to use, and then you can upgrade those skills to unlock effects (Skill Modifier) and combine them. The game also allows gamers to freely change and promote their preferences based on 21 subclasses on the skill tree, 40 active skills, and dozens of special Modifiers.
Skills are not the only way to customize the character because you can freely choose the weapons to use. Currently, the game has more than ten different weapons. Including daggers, swords, maces, guns, hammers, bows, scepter, shields, catalysts, and several versions of two-handed weapons and each weapon have effects, combos, and different uses, allowing gamers to create characters that fit their imagination. Wolcen has 11 different levels for these weapons, so gamers will always find better weapons during the game.
The game’s armor is also quite particular when the shoulder and armbands are separate instead of being collected into one. Only shoes are not separated because wearing two different shoes will not be suitable for fighting. This allows gamers to equip two shoulder pads, two other gloves, and create a unique appearance and stats. Combined with the dyeing feature for the newly launched equipment, we will have a new way of customizing the impression to create characters that suit your wishes.
Wolcen’s endgame content is also quite creamy when you can participate in many different activities such as subtypes, challenges, bosses. You can even increase their challenge level by adding additional conditions (such as increasing the stats for the enemy, random explosions at their feet,…) and, of course, getting more generous rewards from there.
Finally, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem allows you to play online (alone or co-op) or offline as you like, but the game has a clear separation between these two areas: a character created offline cannot play online and opposite. If you want to play co-op, the game has a matchmaking system to pair you with gamers of the same level and skill. The game will also have microtransaction, but as far as it is known, the developer promises that the game will not have a loot box but will only sell skins to raise capital for continued game development.
