The newly leaked AnTuTu benchmark scores show that the iPad Pro 2020 speed is not much faster than the 2018 iPad Pro, while the most significant improvement belongs to the GPU only.
The iPad Pro 2020, an upgraded version of the iPad Pro line, debuted with the new Bionic A12Z processor. But it turns out that this new processor’s performance is not much improved than the Bionic A12X processor inside devices like the 11-inch iPad Pro and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro launched in 2018.
The leaked AnTuTu benchmark score shows that, despite reaching the benchmark score of 712,218, it is only about 1% better than the Bionic A12X with a benchmark score of 705,585.
Although not much difference in processing speed, if you look deeper into the comparison of benchmark scores, the iPad Pro 2020 is significantly more potent in GPU performance, with a 9% higher score than the previous generation predecessor. The iPad Pro 2020’s GPU has a score of 373,781, while its predecessor has a score of 345,016.
A higher GPU score is suitable for 3D gaming and application experiences and augmented reality features coming soon.

Although it is a new generation of processors, it does not mean that Bionic A12Z scores are better than Bionic A12X. In CPU and UX tests, the score of Bionic A12Z is slightly lower than that of A12X. Even in the MEM memory speed test, the iPad Pro 2020 score – 74,998 points – is 20% worse than the 2018 iPad Pro, which has a score of 95,118 points.
The scores above show that, except for a significant GPU performance improvement, the processor on the iPad Pro 2020 does not improve much in speed compared to the iPad Pro line released in 2018. Even so, for For daily use, it is difficult for users to recognize these speed differences. Therefore, the benefit of adding a LiDAR scanner to the camera cluster can overcome these differences and is a compelling reason for users to upgrade.
